In this first international workshop with almost 70 participants, developments and applications were discussed with a focus on
- Plasma surface functionalization such as etching, activation and coating
- Applications such as chemical functionalization and metallization
- treatment of films, textiles, cardboard and building materials

The offer of an institute tour at INNOVENT in Jena before the start of the lecture program was accepted by a very large number of participants. INNOVENT is an industrial research institution active in the fields of surface technology, primers and chemical surface treatment, magnetic and optical systems, biomaterials and analytics.

The evening regulars' table and the preceding short guided tour through the historic center of Erfurt provided an opportunity for discussions and exchange of ideas.

Some workshop participants also took the opportunity to visit X-FAB Semiconductor Foundries AG. X-FAB, as the world's leading foundry group for analog and mixed analog-digital semiconductor applications, manufactures wafers for automotive, consumer electronics, industrial, medical and other applications on modular CMOS and BiCMOS processes. In addition, X-FAB offers special long-life BCD, SOI and MEMS processes.

The broad view beyond the German-speaking "edge of one's nose" offered by this workshop was positively received by the workshop participants. The establishment and use of international contacts plays an increasingly important role for many research institutions and companies.

We would like to express our sincere thanks for the support of the event by the Landesentwicklungsgesellschaft Thüringen mbH and the Stiftung für Technologie, Innovation und Forschung Thüringen as well as for the cooperation with PlasmaGermany, the EFDS and the Balticnet PlasmaTec.
